Questions About JG Prep

Does my child need to know how to swim to join?
Yes. This is a competitive conditioning program, not a learn-to-swim class. Swimmers must have basic swimming skills before enrolling. If your child isn't quite there yet, our private lessons are a great first step.
What happens at the assessment day?
Swimmers complete a timed 100-yard swim so we can place them in the correct session. Attendance at the assessment is mandatory — it's how we make sure every swimmer gets the right level of coaching from day one.
When are LA County tryouts?
LA County Junior Lifeguard tryouts are held in late March and early April. 2027 training dates: January: 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27 February: 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 March: 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 Makeup lessons: March 29 and 31
What if my child misses a session?
There are no makeup classes outside the two scheduled makeup dates at the end of the program. Please factor this in before enrolling.

Space fills fast. Don't wait.

The Junior Guard Prep program runs once a year with limited spots per group. If your swimmer has a tryout goal, this is the program to get them there.
